熊小明回到船上就开始值班，和水头他们一起检查绑扎情况，收拾甲板和舱盖上散落的桥锁、底座，抄抄冷藏箱的温度，准备充分了，又开航去泰国了。
下班后到水头房间送好吃的，花生啊，鸡爪鸭脯什么的一大包，
水头说，“谢谢啊，对了，高电来访船了，说你英语太差了，要你自己多学学，这不给你带了新概念英语一套，还有磁带呢。”
水头拿出来一包东西递给他，“好好学，好好听，以后英语啊很重要。”
船上时间很多，除了8小时值班外，其他的时间都是自己的，小明跟小郝说，“我们一起学吧！”
郝昆是学校毕业的，基础好，他跟小明说，“一起学，互相监督，互相促进，加油！”
于是在休息时候小明开始了艰难的英语学习：Lesson 1，
Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. the play was very interesting. I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. they were talking loudly. I got very angry. I could not hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. they did not pay any attention. In the end, I could not bear it. I turned round again. ‘I can t hear a word!’ I said angrily.
‘It s none of your business, ’ the young man said rudely. ‘this is a private conversation!’
